Description
This complex concentrated alloy (CCA) with nominal composition C0.3 Hf0.5 Mo0.5 Nb1 Ti1 Zr1 is a predominantly face-centered cubic (FCC) austenitic alloy system within the multi-principal element alloy research space, incorporating C, Hf, Mo and 3 additional elements. Key properties include very high melting point (>1800°C), excellent high-temperature strength retention, and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures; molybdenum/tungsten additions provide enhanced solid-solution strengthening and creep resistance; titanium additions promote intermetallic precipitation for additional strengthening; carbon additions form MC-type carbides that strengthen grain boundaries. Investigated applications include high-temperature structural applications, advanced gas turbine components, nuclear energy systems, and refractory coating materials.
