Overview
Originally developed to lighten the Space Shuttle external tank in place of 2219, AA 2195 is a high-performance aluminium–copper–lithium alloy of about 4% copper and 1% lithium. It offers markedly higher strength and stiffness than conventional aluminium alloys along with excellent cryogenic toughness at liquid-hydrogen temperatures. Those attributes place it in aerospace cryogenic fuel tanks, launch-vehicle structures, and spacecraft pressure vessels.

AA 2195 is a high-performance aluminum-copper-lithium alloy (~4% Cu, 1% Li) originally developed for the Space Shuttle External Tank to replace the heavier 2219 alloy.
