Description

This high-entropy alloy (HEA) with nominal composition Al0.214 Nb0.714 Ta0.714 Ti1 Zr0.929 is a predominantly face-centered cubic (FCC) austenitic alloy system within the multi-principal element alloy research space, incorporating Al, Nb, Ta and 2 additional elements. Key properties include very high melting point (>1800°C), excellent high-temperature strength retention, and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures; titanium additions promote intermetallic precipitation for additional strengthening. Investigated applications include high-temperature structural applications, advanced gas turbine components, nuclear energy systems, and refractory coating materials.
