Overview

Unusual among the 2xxx alloys, AA 2009 is an aluminium–copper base reinforced with silicon carbide particles to form a metal-matrix composite, normally supplied in the T4 or T351 temper. The SiC reinforcement sharply raises stiffness, hardness, and wear resistance while the 2xxx matrix retains its high strength.
