Familie: Aluminum Alloy
Copper Alloy (Al-Cu). AA designation 2524.
Overview
AA 2524 is a damage-tolerant aluminium–copper alloy whose composition and microstructure are optimised for fatigue crack-growth resistance beyond that of 2024-T3. Copper is held at 4.0–4.5% with iron and silicon kept low to minimise the coarse constituent particles that seed fatigue cracks. This focus on long crack-initiation life makes it a material of choice for wide-body commercial aircraft fuselage skin panels, where damage tolerance is paramount.

Beschreibung
AA 2524 is a damage-tolerant aluminum-copper alloy with optimized composition and microstructural control to achieve superior fatigue crack growth resistance compared to 2024-T3. It contains 4.0–4.5% copper with tightly controlled iron and silicon levels to minimize coarse constituent particles that initiate fatigue cracks. The alloy is used in wide-body commercial aircraft fuselage skin panels where long fatigue life and damage tolerance are paramount.
