Familie: Aluminum Alloy
Magnesium Alloy (Al-Mg). AA designation 5083.
Overview
Prized for seawater service, AA 5083 is a high-strength aluminium–magnesium alloy (4.0–4.9% Mg) that combines exceptional corrosion resistance with retained toughness at very low temperatures. It is non-heat-treatable, reaching moderate-to-high strength through solid-solution strengthening and work hardening. These properties have made it a standard for shipbuilding, liquefied natural gas tanks, railway vehicles, and structural plate.

Beschreibung
AA 5083 is a high-strength aluminum-magnesium alloy (4.0–4.9% Mg) widely used in marine and cryogenic applications due to its exceptional corrosion resistance in seawater and retention of toughness at very low temperatures. It is non-heat-treatable but achieves moderate-to-high strength through solid solution strengthening and work hardening. Primary applications include shipbuilding, liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks, railway vehicles, and structural plate applications.
