Definition

Ein elektrochemisches Verfahren, das die Korrosion eines Bauteils verhindert, indem es zur Kathode einer elektrochemischen Zelle gemacht wird — entweder durch Anschluss an eine Opferanode oder durch Aufprägen eines Gleichstroms.

Detaillierte Erklärung

Beim Opferanodenschutz kommen unedlere Metalle als das Bauwerk zum Einsatz, üblicherweise Anoden aus Zink, Aluminium oder Magnesium, die bevorzugt korrodieren und so Schiffsrümpfe, Offshore-Plattformen und erdverlegte Rohrleitungen aus Stahl schützen. Der Fremdstromschutz nutzt stattdessen eine äußere Gleichstromquelle, um das geschützte Bauteil auf ein hinreichend negatives Potential zu zwingen. Überwacht wird der Schutzgrad über das Potential zwischen Bauteil und Elektrolyt; für Stahl gilt ein Wert von mindestens −850 mV gegen die Kupfer-Kupfersulfat-Elektrode als erforderlich.
