Description
AA 2198 is a modern aluminum-copper-lithium alloy (2.9–3.5% Cu, 0.8–1.1% Li) designed to replace 2024 in fuselage skin applications. It offers a density reduction of approximately 3–4%, improved fatigue crack growth resistance, and good corrosion resistance compared to older Al-Cu alloys. The alloy is used in commercial aircraft fuselage skins, floor panels, and lower wing skin panels.
