AA 7017 is a weldable high-strength aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloy (~4.0–5.0% Zn, 2.0–3.0% Mg) with zirconium, developed for military armor applications that require both ballistic protection and the ability to be welded without loss of structural integrity. It offers good resistance to stress corrosion cracking and maintains toughness after welding. Primary applications include armored vehicles, ballistic-resistant panels, and military structural components.
