Description
AA 2524 is a damage-tolerant aluminum-copper alloy with optimized composition and microstructural control to achieve superior fatigue crack growth resistance compared to 2024-T3. It contains 4.0–4.5% copper with tightly controlled iron and silicon levels to minimize coarse constituent particles that initiate fatigue cracks. The alloy is used in wide-body commercial aircraft fuselage skin panels where long fatigue life and damage tolerance are paramount.
