Description
AA 7449 is a high-strength, high-toughness aluminum alloy (~8.4% Zn, 1.8–2.4% Mg, 1.4–2.1% Cu) developed specifically for thick plate applications in primary aircraft structure where improved toughness over 7150 and 7055 is required in overaged T7651 temper. The high zinc content provides high strength potential while the tightly controlled Cu/Mg ratio optimizes the corrosion resistance and toughness balance. It is used in upper wing covers of wide-body commercial aircraft.
