Hot rolling is performed above the recrystallization temperature, producing plate, sheet, structural sections, and bars with refined grain structure and reduced porosity compared to the cast ingot. Cold rolling at room temperature introduces work hardening, improving strength and hardness while producing better surface finish and tighter dimensional tolerances suitable for automotive body panels and appliance components. Temper rolling (skin passing) is a light cold reduction applied to hot-rolled and annealed sheet to improve flatness and surface quality.
