Overview
Unusual among the 2xxx alloys, AA 2009 is an aluminium–copper base reinforced with silicon carbide particles to form a metal-matrix composite, normally supplied in the T4 or T351 temper. The SiC reinforcement sharply raises stiffness, hardness, and wear resistance while the 2xxx matrix retains its high strength. That combination of specific stiffness and durability suits it to aerospace structural components, electronic-packaging substrates, and precision optical mounts where dimensional stability under load is critical.
