Family: Aluminum Alloy
Magnesium Alloy (Al-Mg). AA designation 5056.
Overview
With 4.5–5.6% magnesium, AA 5056 is a high-magnesium aluminium alloy that reaches high strength for a non-heat-treatable grade while resisting corrosion in marine and alkaline environments. It machines well and is chosen where aggressive environments would attack lesser alloys. Common uses include cable sheathing, rivets for magnesium assemblies, aircraft and marine hardware, and optical equipment.
