Description
AA 8090 is a second-generation aluminum-lithium alloy (~2.3% Li, 1.1% Cu, 0.6% Mg) developed in the 1980s for aerospace applications seeking density reductions of 10–15% over conventional alloys. It offers higher specific stiffness (modulus/density) and specific strength than 2024 and 7075, though early grades experienced reliability concerns related to anisotropic properties and delamination. Applications include helicopter rotor parts, fuselage panels, military aircraft components, and aerospace structural plates.
