Overview
A third-generation aluminium–copper–lithium alloy of roughly 3.6% copper and 0.9% lithium, AA 2050 marries high strength with reduced density relative to conventional 2024. Each weight percent of lithium cuts density by about 3% while also stiffening the alloy by raising its elastic modulus. Those weight and stiffness gains explain its adoption in aerospace fuselage panels, lower wing skins, and thick-plate parts where every kilogram saved carries value.

AA 2050 is a third-generation aluminum-copper-lithium alloy (~3.6% Cu, 0.9% Li) that combines high strength with reduced density compared to conventional 2024. The lithium content lowers density by approximately 3% per weight percent added while also increasing elastic modulus. It is used in aerospace fuselage panels, lower wing skins, and thick plate applications where weight savings are critical.
