AA 7055 is one of the highest-strength commercial aluminum alloys available (yield strength >600 MPa in T77 temper), containing elevated zinc (~8% Zn), magnesium, and copper with zirconium for grain control. The T77 retrogression and re-aging (RRA) treatment achieves near-T6 strength with T73-level corrosion resistance, resolving the traditional strength-corrosion trade-off. It is used in upper wing skins of long-range commercial aircraft where maximum compression buckling resistance is required.
